Just looking for some answers? Here are the most common questions we receive.

What do I receive when you register me as a sole trader with HMRC?

Once we've contacted HMRC on your behalf and registered you as a sole trader, you will receive your Unique Tax Reference (UTR) number.

How long will it take to receive my UTR number?

It usually takes about 6 weeks to receive your UTR number from HMRC.

Am I allowed to work before I receive my UTR number?

So long as you register as self-employed within 3 months of trading, there is absolutely nothing stopping you from trading before you UTR number arrives!

Do I need to become VAT registered?

You do not need to become VAT registered to take advantage of our Sole Trader Starter Pack, although it is likely that you would benefit from doing so. Our in-house experts will talk through you and your business first and give you advance as you need it.

Are there any additional fees?

There are no hidden fees involved with self-employed registration beyond the £49.99. There are additional accountancy services that we offer, which will help you manage your money more efficiently. These come at an additional cost and can be found by going to our services page.

What is Tax relief and how does it work?

Tax relief means that you pay less Tax to account for money that you have spent on business expenses. Your income is reduced by the value of the expenses that you claim, therefore reducing the amount of Tax you pay.

Why does IN-SYNC Tax complete HMRC checks for every client?

We complete HMRC checks to ensure that there is nothing on a client's HMRC account which could affect their refund.
